Freeze
This
technique can be used with a patch division
of two,
but you'll have to reconnect the mesh
using the first case of the previous
tutorial
If you go over 3 you'll have to combine
the two techniques from the previous
tutorial.

Make sure that your
patch division is set to three.
Select the polygons where you want to
increase the detail and subpatch them

Freeze (Clrt+d) those
polygons. Now we need to connect the
new geometry,
we do this by welding (ctrl+w) the points
as the arrows indicate

Fill the empty spaces
with polygons (red ones)
